I Can Do This

Me and my clever friend!

Wow! Has it really been that long since I last wrote a blog post?!?!... Apologies. I have been struggling a bit art-wise, but I am trying to fix that, promise!

I am still working on my drawing and I did rent that studio I posted about last time for a few months, however, I ended up having to give that up (it was nice while it lasted!).

Trying to find a work/art balance has been a challenge. I have gained, left and changed my day jobs, meaning I now only have one job at the zoo. You may have noticed that I have had an update on most of my art accounts, which I think was for the best. I have missed blogging, maybe, but I definitely miss my studio more...

Fingers crossed I can keep this up!

Right Decision

Some of you may have noticed that near the end of November last year I had a brand change on my social networks. Brand change - is that even what I should call it?

I reverted back to 'Mosely & Co.' which is an imaginary factory I created back in college.

I was really nervous about doing it; there's always a part of you which feels anxious in case you are making a big mistake, like I did before when I changed from it, but so far I am rather happy about it all. I still need to work on putting my new Facebook page out there and getting the likes up. I had to start it from scratch due to Facebook and its rules... Blah, blah, blah!

Anywho, it's a new year, I have things planned and ideas that I want to achieve and hopefully I will get back into making art work. I have already started on a new project, but I need to get back into some sort of creative routine like when I was at university!

Cross Your Fingers.

'Cross your fingers.'

It's finally over, yes! I was very unsure about this one from the very beginning. The outline did not look great at all. Normally, I get a feeling about how it's going to go at this point and I just didn't feel it was working. With this drawing I seem to have lost the way I draw, or maybe I just keep changing it. I don't think I have found my style yet and maybe I never will. At some point my mind decided it was a great idea to go mad with the cross hatching. Some might like it and some, like me, may feel it's too much - let me know what you think.

The title for this was decided at the outline break time point, I always have a little rest here, to get myself together and think what I'm going to do. I also found that because of how I felt about the piece, the t.v. seemed more distracting than normal, however, I still managed to get it done. I definitely needed all the luck I could get and crossed my fingers, with the hope that it would get better. I asked people to cross there fingers too, the more the merrier! So if you were one of them, I thank you for trying. Sorry I didn't succeed as well as I could have. But remember practise, practise, practise. One day it'll happen, I will be content with what I create (fingers crossed haha).

Lost Talent.

'I used to have talent...'

These are a series of drawings in a sketchbook that I did when I was at college. They were a part of my final major project called "Museum of Objects". We visited the Ipswich Museum a fews times, I loved that place, I could sit in there all day, just walking around, looking and drawing. I haven't been back for over a year and I think I miss it.

Look how good I used to be able to draw haha! I enjoyed drawing these, out of everything there, the most. I fell in love with the elephant skull. It's the most memorable object I have ever drawn. They remind me of the wonderful elephant skull etchings by Henry Moore, just not as great as them of course. It makes me happy to draw skulls, it used to be a big part of my work. Now a days, it takes me a while to get into something and recently I haven't finished much.

I've been trying to decide on what I could do for second year, work wise, at university and there are so many possibilities. I think about it a lot, which makes knowing what I want to do even more difficult. I found an unused square sketchbook in my desk and I was thinking I might fill it full of elephant skulliness... I'm not sure yet. It might mean I have to visit museums again, I prefer them to galleries. Maybe I'll work on all sorts of skulls and bones. Argh, I don't know. Hopefully I won't get bored of it, that tends to happen with me, if I even start it at all.

Desk Space.

My work space yesterday, I finally have my desk back, hallelijah! My parents came to visit me at uni the other day and helped me pack up most of the things that I don't need, so they can take it home with them. They took me and my boyfriend out for a meal and a bit of food shopping. Well, I might as well make the most out of them while they're here haha! It was nice seeing them all get along and chat a little. We then rushed around Asda grabbing things I needed; it was like we were on Supermarket Sweep (definitely should do our shopping like that more often - it was so much fun). After all that, it was time to pack the car and say bye bye for now.

With this new found space, I decided to use my newly, clear desk and finish the drawing I started at the weekend. It felt good, almost like being back at the studios. Ok, so it was nothing like that, but it was better than me scrunched up working on my bed. I have loads of space now that my massive printer and numerous bottles of paint and my sculpture have gone. Yay! I'm hoping this will help me be able to get into my sketchbook work and blogging properly. It'll probably be a slow start, just fingers crossed I get it sorted before I go home. It also means I get to sit and get distracted by looking out of my window at the wonderful dreary weather we’re having, what fun!

Purple.

Acrylic paint on paper, A1.

'Purple'. Yeah, you probably get the idea now... I'm not so keen on this one, there is just something about it that doesn't feel right to me and I have decided that my paintings look better as a photograph rather than in real life. I don't know if that is a good thing or not, I could possibly use this to my advantage later on in the project. A thought had occurred to me... 'Purple Rain'. Song and a rather nice cocktail according to my friend. This one may have to be dedicated to her because that is all I will think about when ever I see this from now on. Queue the awkward moment when she says she doesn't like it haha! Any who. Tomorrow will be another day and another colour. Fingers crossed as always that it will go well.

Below are photos of stages to get to the final piece:
