Child's Skull Study.
It's been a hectic few days trying to sort things out for a little show I'll be a part of next week. It's definitely been an experience I can tell you and probably one that not many people would let me do again (I'll explain more in another blog post when I get round to it). And a relaxing weekend because it rained. A lot.
What's been happening recently? Well, we had a meeting on the Wednesday just gone about the possibility of helping a curator named Stephan Hausmeister in some way, who will be pulling together a show from students work currently being made in the studios, called 'Plastic Android Scream'. You may remember that we had assessment last week and had to make our area into a gallery-like space. Well, without our knowledge, Stephan went round the 2nd and 3rd years spaces, even the 1st years, and photograped work that interested him. He was also sneaky and had a look at our back up work.
Obviously I wanted him to have chosen something and be in the exhibition rather than just help out, I'm sure everyone in that room thought the same. I just wasn't expecting him to have chosen what he did. It was my study of a childs skull. A little voice in my head went "Nooooooo!" when I saw the photo pop up on screen whilst he showed us the short-listed work.
Now you may be at a point thinking, 'is that a bad thing?' and I will tell you why now... The piece has no meaning behind it. I created the work simply to enter it in to the open exhibition for Eastern Approaches last year. I guess I could find meaning it, an evident subject is death, then coloured patched of paint by the top could resemble flowers and there you have life... I don't know. I'll find sumit, there must've been something there for me to create it.
I'm pleased to get the opportunity, of course, it'll all help getting myself out there. On a similar note, I'll be involved in another little show in March with a few of my friends. I'll be able to put up pieces with more to them then haha! Things seem to be going pretty well this year, with only a smidgen of stress. Oops! - I've probably jinxed it now.
