Overdue Update.

Soon shall be the beginning of a new chapter at University. The second semester of my second year here will begin next week and I feel like I should fill you all in on what I haven't shared with you all.

I have been desperately lacking in blog posts for the past couple of months. Lacking in terms of there hasn't been a single one. I'm not sure what happened. I guess there was a lot of stress from essay hand in, which I didn't have a clue what I was meant to do for it, so i just went for it and once that was over it was back to my home life for the Christmas holidays. (Although, I am pleased to announce that I received essay feedback last week and I PASSED! With a lovely 68%). Once I was home home I just wanted to be with my family and friends, and not worry about anything art-related. I reckon that happened also because I forgot to bring things back with me to do any anyway. I loved being home and wasn't looking forward to leaving to come back to uni for assessment. That is thankfully over with now.

Whoa! I've just checked and I haven't posted since the end of my warm-up project... Sorry everyone, have a Velociraptor in a snood to make it all better! There have been a few things happen since then. An exciting part was entering into an Open Exhibition and having a piece selected to be in it. The main trouble was that I completely lost where I was going with my art. It has been a "roller coaster" of a journey to get where I am today, which you can read about in my previous post: Artist Talk.

I shall try to add a few posts over the weekend so you'll be back up to date by the time I properly start making work again. I apologise if that doesn't happen and I'll skip the many little boring bits... (Was that a 'yay' I just heard?)

Pen Found.

'The Floor Found My Pen.'

I admit it, when it comes to the weekend, I am the worst person at getting anything accomplished. An example is this drawing. I started it last week and  it had taken me five days to get it finished. I had planned on working out of my sketchbook but it was too windy outside for what I wanted to do. So I was at least thinking about being 'arty', that's better than nothing, right? And I did attempt to finish my drawing. However, my boyfriend was round and he was being intentionally distracting and getting in the way. It worked. I ended up making a mistake above the skull (you can see it in the top photo). I thought it was best I do no more until he had gone home haha!

The process of this drawing has been strange... It has taken far too long, which I know is my fault. As always, life gets in the way. I can't wait to get back to uni next month (although, I doubt I'll be very productive then either). I'm not as pleased with this one, I reckon because of the amount of time I spent on it, my 'mind set' on the piece changed. The name of it is because when I was ready and sat down to begin drawing, I couldn't find my pen. In the end I found it on the floor. The outline started off well, then when I began adding details and shading it went down hill. I guess I can just learn and carry on. Once again I need to realise it's sketchbook work and doesn't need to be perfect.

Lost In Collaboration.

This semester we all had to work collaboratively in some way. I chose to create a video with Clive Matthews. It’s called ‘LOST’ and not very long so take a peek! I shot the clips using my mobile phone and Clive helped to edit them together on iMovie. What would we do without good ol’ Clive? He’s a life saver to one and all. I must apologise to him for being so demanding but we had a laugh. We had to present what we created today and it went well. I got praised for having taken the camera to its limits and ‘glitching’ it. I got given the idea that it would be interesting to sit in a room with speakers, eyes closed and just have the soundtrack from this film playing (sensory deprivation / hightened senses). I also just wanted to say well done to everyone, there was some really great and memorable pieces shown. They looked better being projected large on the wall, compared to a computer screen.
